Breckenridge, Colorado

This popular ski paradise was quite during the Summer, but offers wonderful hiking paths that will take your breath away.

Ski Resorts in the Summer

I visited Breckenridge in the Summer of 2018 with some old friends from college. The 8 of us had all gone our separate ways after graduation but we try to find time to stay connected. We chose a cabin in Breckenridge as our reunion trip for this year. We all flew into Denver and waiting for our buddy Lucas to get off of work so we could head to the mountains. we drove a 1 1/2 hours from Denver on the winding mountain roads through the Rockies. The summer time brought fresh green foliage that covered the mountain.

We arrived at the cabin in the early afternoon and everyone raced to pick their beds. Excitement filled the cabin as we opened the windows and felt the cool mountain air rush in. Our cabin had a covered patio with a grill and a view of the rockies so we fired it up and eat dinner as the sunset over the mountains.  We hung out on that patio for hours, catching up with everyone and listened to the river running through the back yard.

A Hike Through The Clouds

The next morning we headed up into the mountains to hike for the day. We chose a path including 3 lakes, each connected by waterfalls that brought us to 15,000 feet above sea level. The elevation was a tough adjustment, as most of us came from cities right around sea level. Mile by mile we were making progress towards the top. We had no problem stopping to catch our breath because the views got during that time were incredible. One break we took was at an old cabin from the gold rush era. The cabin ruins were not completely in tack but we could image how it was in its glory days. It took us a little longer than expected but we finally made it to the top of the trail. The view from the top was breathtaking as we saw was green mountain tops for miles.

Mainstreet Breckenridge

Our last day before heading back to Denver was spent on main street. The small ski town offers endless outdoor adventure but includes only one area where visiter’s can shop and eat. Main street is line with great restaurants, pubs and shops to pick up gifts to bring home. Colorado has numerous craft breweries so a good beer was not hard to come across. We poked in and out of the shops till it came time to hit the road. It was hard to leave the peaceful little town but it gives us something to look forward to visiting again.
