Christmas in the Andes

We spent our Christmas a little differently in 2017. On our way back from a week long cruise through the Galapagos islands, we spent a few lights in the Andes mountains of Ecuador. We booked our stay at a bed and breakfast compound a short distance outside of Quito. This beautiful mountainside property was full of lush green vegetation and a view of the mountains. My mother, Aunt Lynda and cousin Matthew shared a cozy cottage with a huge wood fireplace. With poor cellphone service, the cottage offered us a chance to unplug from everything. Although we did not have technology to keep us entertained, we were entertained by the beautiful views and hiking paths.

Waterfall Hike

The property owner had 3 dogs that roamed the grounds and knew the hiking paths like the back of their paws. We hear the owner talking about a waterfall hike not far from where we stayed so we decided to go. Our request for directions was answer by “just follow the dogs”, so we followed them into the forest. Our concern began to raise as we hiked about a mile didn’t see any sign of water. Finally we passed a stream that reassured us to keep following the dog. Not long after the trees opened up to a beautiful waterfall. The secluded waterfall was so tranquil, we could have stayed there for house.
