Snow Covered Wedding

Savannah is a city rich in history, design and cinematic influence. I visited Savannah for the first time to see my old friends, Marshall and Jaimie, get married downtown, right across from were the iconic bench scene was shot for the movie Forest Gump. This was a unique trip, as the city saw its first snow storm since the early 1990’s. Savannah was not prepared for the harsh weather, but we definitely were.

The Kosiec family and I arrived late Friday night to snow covered roads that were accented by white speckled Spanish moss that hung from 100 year old trees. We were eager to get out on the town, but  decided to wait till the next morning to explore when we could appreciate the storm that passed through. Most of the city was shut down as the roads were too icy for normal business to resume. It gave us a unique perspective of a quiet city that was not typical for this busy tourist destination. The numerous  fountains scattered throughout downtown were all frozen over. We threw snowballs and build snowmen by the riverwalk where the lively pubs gave everyone something to do. Despite the tuxedo shop closing and threatening to delay the ceremony, the wedding went on and the good times continued.

St. Patty’s Day

Jamie attended Savannah College of Art and Design and had been telling us for years how much fun Savannah  is for St. Patty’s Day. Yeah after year, Savannah was voted one of the nation’s best St, Patty’s day celebrations. I’m glad we finally went because the whole city turned into a block party. Jamie lived right above Jennies Dinner for the Movie Forest Gump, right downtown so we had a great spot to watch the parade. The parade seemed to go on for better part of the day, so we bar hopped along the parade path, drank green beer and enjoyed live music that seemed to take over the city. Savanah was full of the Irish spirit that day, with every fountain died green and people from all different walks of life enjoying a beer together.

Down by the riverwalk was where the party really began. There were five stages and endless beer vendors to keep the party going. The crowd was so large and energetic that you could hardly make your way through it. We didn’t get much sleep that night, which made for a tough ride home, but it was worth it.
